About Us Programs News Volunteers Teen Court

Awards

Congratulations and Thank You to the following volunteers who received awards at our 10th Anniversary Celebration in December 2000.

Evelyn Hovee — Youth Volunteer Award for Exceptional Service & Dedication
Since 1997, Evie Hovee has served in all facets of Teen Court. She gives several hours each month to the program and has recruited her 3 siblings as volunteers as well. As an attorney, Evie thoroughly prepares and researches her cases and takes full advantage of the Indiana University at Indianapolis Law School Mentors Program. A home school student who also works at an architectural firm, Evie is a model volunteer. Thank You Evie!

Lynn Jones — Parent Award for Exceptional Service & Dedication
Parents are some of the unspoken heroes of Teen Court. Each month, Lynn Jones makes sure her 2 children get to Teen Court on time to volunteer, in all 7 sites throughout Marion and Johnson counties. Because of her strong belief in the program and her concern for keeping young people active and involved, she has recruited 3 other youth, including her nieces and nephews, to the program. Thank You Lynn!

Kori McComber — Mentor Award
A very special component of the program involves law school students from Indiana University at Indianapolis as mentors to youth attorneys and jurors. The mentors help the youth attorneys shape and build cases, formulate questions, and strengthen arguments. Despite her rigorous legal studies at IUI and employment with a local firm, Kori faithfully comes to Teen Court. She serves as a liaison for law students, coordinating and organizing their involvement with the program. Thank You Kori!

Mike Lewinski — Volunteer Judge Award
Much of the Teen Court's success and credibility has to do with the involvement of real attorneys and judges who serve as volunteer judges for each case. Through their legal expertise and experience, they ensure order and respect in the courtroom and raise the level of professionalism. Mike is a partner at Ice Miller and has volunteered for years. He has a special interest and commitment to young people, works very well with the Teen Court youth volunteers, and actively recruits other attorneys to the program. Thank You Mike!

DeHaan Family Foundation — Christel Funder Award
As a new philanthropic institution in the Indianapolis community, the Christel DeHaan Family Foundation has a strong commitment to education. We value the Foundation's support for positive youth development and turning around youth offenders. Financial support from the Foundation has helped Reach for Youth become stronger every day. Thank You!
