Success Stories:

There are so many great examples of how Reach for Youth staff have helped some challenged young people reach success. Here are a few. We will continue to be adding new stories and occasionally offering updates to past stories. Please return over time to review them.

Insight: Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Treatment Group

Insight is a six-week group session where our therapists provide insight and motivation: Insight into the child’s use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and motivation to stop.

Insight is appropriate for youth who require more intensive treatment than basic education about drugs and alcohol or who have started to use more regularly or experiment with a number of drugs or alcohol.

After orientation, teens and their parents/guardians must then participate in an evaluation to determine if they are appropriate for Insight. Sometimes youth will be referred by their school or probation officer for "Drug and Alcohol Treatment," however, the decision as to whether or not a teen should be in Insight is made at the time of the evaluation. Any teen that is assessed as needing this level of treatment can be referred into this group.

Insight Group will help teens identify their misuse patterns, understand how friends and their environment can influence substance use, increase coping skills to live substance-free, and identify "trigger" situations or feelings that could encourage substance use. Teens will also work on developing a relapse prevention plan that identifies their plan to stay substance free.

Teens can miss and "make-up" no more than one session to be eligible for successful completion. They must demonstrate they are substance-free to successfully complete the program. On-site random Urine Drug Screens are used to test for substances including, Marijuana, Ecstasy, Methamphetamine, Cocaine, Amphetamines, Barbiturates, and Opiates.

Insight groups are provided at scheduled times, in the evenings at both our North and South Indianapolis offices.
