Family Therapy
Reach for Youth provides family therapy services for children, adolescents, and their parents/guardians at both our locations. Our therapists are available to provide therapy for families with children and teens, ages 6-18. Reasons a family may be appropriate for family therapy include, but are not limited to:
- History of physical or sexual abuse
- Divorce, anger issues
- Drug or alcohol abuse issues with the child or parent
- Difficultly blending a new family
- Mental health issues with the child or parent
- Parenting problems
- Grief and loss
- Communication and conflict resolution
- Setting appropriate boundaries and consequences/parenting
- Adjustment to family disruption (Parent relocated, deployed by military or incarcerated)
Upon completion of orientation and the evaluation appointment, therapist, child and parent will discuss treatment goals. For many families, ongoing family therapy is the recommendation. Follow-up appointments will then be scheduled, most typically in weekly or bi-weekly intervals. Family therapy sessions are scheduled for one hour. Morning, afternoon, and evening appointments are available for family therapy.
If a family is participating in therapy together, at times, the therapist may want to focus more of the session with the parents/guardians or with the youth, but the family will be expected to attend their appointments together unless otherwise instructed. It is not unusual for individual therapy or group counseling to be recommended to supplement family therapy.
