Success Stories:

There are so many great examples of how Reach for Youth staff have helped some challenged young people reach success. Here are a few. We will continue to be adding new stories and occasionally offering updates to past stories. Please return over time to review them.

Individual Therapy

Reach for Youth provides individual counseling and therapy services for children and adolescents at both our locations. Our therapists are available to provide individual counseling for children and teens 6-18.
Reasons a youth may be appropriate for individual therapy include, but are not limited to:

  • Depression
  • Anger issues
  • School problems
  • Family problems
  • History of physical or sexual abuse
  • Divorce or grief issues
  • Attention problems
  • Legal issues
  • Drug or alcohol abuse issues
  • Problems with peers
  • Cutting/self-mutilation behaviors
  • Suicidal thoughts or behaviors
  • Anxiety
  • Sexual acting-out behavior
  • Gender orientation
  • Gambling

Upon completion of orientation and the evaluation appointment, therapist, child and parent will discuss treatment goals. For many youth, individual therapy is the recommendation. Follow-up appointments can then be scheduled, typically in weekly or bi-weekly intervals. Individual therapy sessions are scheduled for one hour.

When a child is enrolled in individual therapy, the main portion of the session will be spent in private therapy sessions with that child; however parents /guardians will be expected to attend with the child to offer updates on how things are going for that child.
It is not unusual for family therapy or group therapy to be recommended to supplement individual therapy. Sometimes psychiatric services are also recommended.
