Success Stories:

There are so many great examples of how Reach for Youth staff have helped some challenged young people reach success. Here are a few. We will continue to be adding new stories and occasionally offering updates to past stories. Please return over time to review them.

Individual and Family Therapy for Victims of Sexual Abuse

Reach for Youth provides individual and family therapy services for children and adolescents who have been sexually abused. Our therapists, with specialized training in this area, provide treatment focused on understanding past trauma and how that can affect current thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Youth and families involved in this type of treatment learn about healthy ways to cope with previous trauma, the dynamics of healthy relationships and how to add support systems to lessen the impact in the future.

Evaluations typically take one to two hours and are scheduled during the mornings or early afternoon. At the completion of the evaluation, therapist, child and parent will discuss the treatment recommendations. For many youth who have been victimized, individual and/or family therapy are recommended. Follow-up appointments will then be scheduled, most typically in weekly or bi-weekly intervals. Sessions are scheduled for one hour and morning, afternoon, and evening appointments are available at both our locations.

If a child is enrolled in individual therapy, while the main portion of the session will be spent with that child, parents/guardians will be expected to attend with the child to give updates on how things are going for that child.

In many cases, the victim of an adolescent enrolled in ASAG or ASOTP will be involved in Individual or Family Therapy for Victims of Sexual Abuse at Reach for Youth. In that case, the therapist working with the victim will consult with the therapists working in ASAG/ASOTP to ensure continuity of care, supervision and assess readiness to reunite the family in cases where a child has been removed from the home after the abuse was disclosed. When appropriate, treatment will work toward a clarification session between the victim and the ASAG/ASOTP participant and their supporters as part of their individual treatment plans.
